Coach

Rob Simoes

Coach Simoes has been coaching AAU for four seasons and is the Director of the RI Warriors. His interest and experience in basketball began long before his involvement with the AAU.  He grew up playing basketball for the Oakland Beach Boys & Girls Club in Warwick and played travel basketball as a youth. Only playing limited basketball in high school due to his passion in Wrestling.

Coach Simoes attended college at Roger Williams University where his work study job was refereeing intramural basketball. That is where he developed a new respect for the game, realizing the discretion that is involved in calling it. With a love of all sports Rob was college athletic but on the Rugby field. Happily married with three children, Coach Simoes began coaching basketball, lacrosse and even soccer as his children began youth sports, quickly realizing his passion for coaching was in basketball.  He is also on the board for Exeter\West Greenwich Youth Hoops Basketball as the travel coordinator. Coach Simoes has recently received his NFHS certification which would allow him to be a high school coach if the right opportunity presents itself.

Currently, he coaches the Exeter\West Greenwich 7th grade travel as well as the RI WARRIORS 10th grade team. To this day he feels one of his biggest accomplishments was having a 6th grade team going 1-16 one season, to then having the same team go 13-9 the following year. He feels that not only researching the X’s and O’s of the game but also having a certain player/coach  relationship that allows you to motivate contributed to the success of the team. His dedication and perseverance while coaching AAU was respected; when the Director of the RI Warriors was ready to step down, he gladly offered Coach Simoes the position.
